Making Meatballs

I pulled onto our street last night to find my boys busy shoveling the driveway.  And actually working together!  Yay!  The night before they'd been asked to take the garbage out...together...and you would think we'd handed out the worst punishment imaginable.  This was a nice turn of events.

Owen stayed at the task until it was done and Greyson came inside where he essentially made dinner for our family.  It was fun cooking with him.  We haven't done that in a long time and I tried to stand back as much as I could and let him do more than usual.

So, I had one boy proud of this

and one boy proud of this

Our menu for the evening was spaghetti with meatballs.  I'd previously made, and frozen, this sauce recipe, which was fantastic!  I did however add some spice to ours because we like bold sauces.

My little chef breaking the Quinoa noodles.  (No worries, he washed his hands, but black marker is a bit stubborn to come off!)

Next he chopped some carrots for the meatballs.  He did them in tiny batches because he was enamored with the food processor and kept eating the carrots.

I didn't think he'd dig in to mixing the meatball ingredients, but he was all for it!  Well he did have a disgusted look on his face, but hey, he did it!

While the meatballs were in the oven we made some dessert.  A take-off of this recipe.  I'd put coconut milk in the fridge to cool and then we just put the solid part of the contents into the food processor with fresh strawberries and a little honey.  We divided it into small dishes and put it in the freezer to have after dinner.  Good stuff!

At some point an apron request was made.  He's so cute!!!

While I was serving up dinner I turned around to find this...

Completely logical to take out some cherries as mom is serving dinner.  I don't even try to figure them out anymore.  Honestly.

And dinner is served!!!!

Delicious!!!

We spent the rest of the evening snuggled up together in the family room and after the boys went to bed, I headed to the hot tub.  With a glass of wine.  Great way to end the day!

  2. Sweet pictures! I find that my boys eat better when I include them in cooling it! (even if it is messier and takes a bit longer!) I am sure these are the days we will cherish looking back!
